About Malashri Shirage
I am a 2nd-year Engineering student specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AIDS). My journey in technology is driven by a simple goal: learning how to build and improve tools that solve real-world problems. Being in the AIDS branch, I am constantly exploring how data and automation can make software more efficient. My Open Source Journey & GSoC 2026:Currently, I am deeply involved in the Open Source community as a GSoC 2026 aspirant. I am contributing to NRNB (National Resource for Network Biology), specifically working on the GraphSpace project. My primary focus is on the UI migration project, where I am moving the platform from a legacy stack to a modern Next.js and React architecture.College Involvement & Leadership:Beyond my academics, I am an active member of my college\'s Tech Team. This role allows me to stay updated with the latest campus technical trends and collaborate with like-minded peers. I have also served as a Volunteer for several technical events. These experiences have been crucial in developing my \"soft skills\"—from managing event logistics to troubleshooting technical issues under pressure. I believe that being a good engineer isn\'t just about writing code; it\'s about being a reliable teammate and a clear communicator.Technical Interests:Web Automation: Working with Playwright and Node.js to improve library performance.Data Science: Understanding how to process and visualize complex data (Biological networks in my current project).Version Control: Proficient in using Git and GitHub for collaborative development. My Philosophy:I don\'t believe in knowing everything from day one. I believe in the power of \"Learning while Doing.\" Whether it was setting up complex environments for projects like Oppia or submitting my first PR to NRNB, I have always preferred jumping into the code and figuring it out. I am someone who isn\'t afraid of \"exit code 1\" errors because they are just steps toward a successful build.I am always looking to connect with mentors, fellow developers, and anyone passionate about AI, Data Science, or Open Source. Let’s connect and grow together!
