ABOUT MOHAMMAD AL-AMRI

I am a biomedical engineer and established academic committed to transforming rehabilitation through digital innovation, movement science, and data-driven approaches. My work bridges engineering, biomechanics, and clinical practice to develop practical solutions that enhance physiotherapy and patient outcomes, particularly for people with musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. As Principal Research Fellow (Reader) at Cardiff University and Adjunct Professor at the Hashemite University, I lead a multidisciplinary research group exploring virtual reality, wearable sensors, and intelligent movement analysis. Our aim is to translate laboratory research into practical clinical tools, improving assessment, rehabilitation, and quality of life for patients.Over the past decade, I have supervised and co-supervised a diverse range of MSc and PhD students to successful completion, while also serving as examiner and Chair for multiple doctoral vivas. I am committed to creating inclusive and supportive research environments, helping early-career researchers develop confidence, independence, and the skills to become future leaders.Beyond supervision, I contribute to the wider scientific community through reviewing and advising on research and innovation panels. I have held influential leadership roles within professional and learned societies, helping to shape strategic priorities, promote research excellence, and support the growth of the scientific community. These experiences allow me to align research, policy, and practice for tangible impact.I am particularly motivated by translating research into real-world benefit. I collaborate closely with clinicians and industry partners to develop innovative, evidence-based rehabilitation solutions. My work combines scientific rigour with practical application, ensuring new technologies and methods genuinely improve patient care.I am also passionate about public engagement and science communication, sharing knowledge through talks, workshops, and media to inspire interest in STEM and healthcare innovation.I am driven by the belief that collaboration, mentorship, and innovation can transform healthcare, and I take pride in contributing to an environment where research, education, and clinical practice work together to improve lives.Research interests: virtual rehabilitation • biomechanics • wearable sensors • digital healthcare • human movement analysis • machine learning in physiotherapy.
