About Makayla McCartan
I am a Cybersecurity Student at Purdue University. I am actively involved with Women in Technology, University Residency Multicultural Connections. I am the current treasurer for the Women in Cybersecurity Purdue University branch, and I am a Resident Assistant with Purdue University Boiler Apartments at Purdue University. As an RA (Resident Assistant), I manage 60 individual residents and host community events to build the community and work with 18 other RAs to build each individual community. As treasurer, I manage the finances of the club and work with each individual in the organization for dues and payments. I work with the board to help in decisions making in regard to the finances needed. As a student, I am able to work in a variety of different programming languages (Java, Python, JavaScript, C++) and interfaces (Windows, Linux, Mac). I have used these skills to work on Raspberry Pis and working in virtual machines to access and decrypt files and data. With WiCys (Women in Cybersecurity), I have attended a 42-hour hack-a-thon in which we used networks and VMs to decrypt and organize data to find markers or flags.
