ABOUT MAITE BRAUCKMANN
I am a German national currently pursuing a dual degree in English Law (LLB) at the University of Exeter and French Law (Maîtrise 1) at the University of Rennes. My part-time work experience and time as an au-pair in France have strengthened my proficiency in French, while my German background further enhances my linguistic and cultural adaptability. With a strong interest in the intersections of law and finance, I am actively broadening my expertise in these fields.I recently completed an 11-week program with the Exeter Student Investment Fund (ExSIF), which deepened my understanding of markets, mergers, and investment strategies. Additionally, I have completed virtual work experiences in Commercial Law at Slaughter and May and Wealth and Personal Banking, Global Banking and Markets and Commercial Banking at HSBC, gaining valuable insights into the legal and financial sectors. My international background and education fuel my ambition to pursue a global career in law and finance, and I am eager to further develop my skills through internships and professional opportunities worldwide.I have developed a strong interest in Private Equity and restructuring through a combination of practical experience and further independent exploration. I completed a Private Equity virtual work experience with White & Case and a restructuring-focused virtual experience with Latham & Watkins, which gave me early exposure to leveraged transactions, financial distress, and the strategic role lawyers play in value preservation and turnaround situations. These experiences prompted me to explore the field more deeply through wider reading on distressed investing, capital structures, and creditor dynamics. I have also attended open days with Sidley Austin, Davis Polk, and Weil, where discussions with practitioners reinforced my interest in the intersection of transactional work, financial restructuring, and complex stakeholder negotiations. To further specialise, I am focusing on digital competition law, engaging in a masters module as well as conducting further independent research to deepen my understanding of regulatory frameworks governing digital markets. This includes exploring the European Union\'s Digital Markets Act(DMA), and the UK\'s Digital Markets and Competition and Consumers Act (DMCCA).
