ABOUT MAIRA KARAN
I am a registered psychological associate and doctoral-level clinician in California with a PhD in psychology from UCLA and postdoctoral training from Stanford University. My work has included NIH-funded clinical research, longitudinal neuroimaging studies (fMRI), psychophysiological studies, and large-scale population health data analysis, centered on understanding how context shapes well-being and human development.Today, my work is fully centered on clinical care. I specialize in supporting children, adolescents, adults, and couples through anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, and identity development. I am currently a psychological associate (Registration #94••••72) working toward licensure in clinical psychology in California under the supervision and mentorship of Dr. Christina Chick. My approach is warm, evidence-based, and grounded in EMDR, mindfulness, CBT, and DBT, with attention to the nervous system and the deeper patterns people carry through their lives. I care deeply about helping clients make sense of their experiences, build insight, and create meaningful change that lasts. I’m EMDR-trained from EMDRIA and am currently working toward certification. My research continues through collaborations with scholars at Stanford and UCLA.
