Member of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Expert Working Group (EWG) on Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) for the drafting of the Corporate Net Zero Standard Version 2.0 from March 2025 - January 2026. The EWG is a voluntary group made up of experts with in-depth knowledge of carbon removals and net zero standards that provides expert advice to the SBTi over the duration of the project to revise the Corporate Net Zero Standard. The EWG has an advisory role and is not part of the governance structure of the SBTi and is not responsible for any decision-making.

ABOUT BUI

Mai holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Monash University, Australia. Before joining Supercritical as Director of Climate Science in 2024, she was a Senior Research Associate at Imperial College London, where she co-led the Clean Fossil and Bioenergy Research Group with Professor Niall Mac Dowell. With over 14 years of experience across academia, policy, and industry in CDR, CCS, and clean energy, Mai continues to serve as an Honorary Research Associate at Imperial, maintaining close ties with the global CDR research community.She has contributed to the IPCC’s work on carbon removal methodologies and currently serves as an Expert Working Group Member on carbon removals for the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Mai has also advised the UK Government and currently sits on the Advisory Board for Puro.earth. Her expertise supports the development of high-integrity standards and methodologies for measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) of CO₂ removal technologies.
