ABOUT MAHTAB KARAMI
Ever since I got to know myself and was able to imagine a path to achieve my goals and dreams, I\'ve found myself passionate about Art. To take the right steps into the art world, I chose the field of Painting for my Master\'s degree. Throughout these years, I displayed my artworks in 5 group exhibitions and made it to the semi-final in the 2nd Student Expo at the University of Alzahra (Feb 2020), and the final at the 5th Tehran Mural Biennale (Feb 2020). Studying a wide range of art historical topics and developing my academic writing skills helped me realize my profound passion for conducting academic research. I have a strong passion for Feminism, Gender Studies, and Gendered Aesthetics, specifically in the context of art studies and painting. Hence, I addressed the male gaze and gender stereotypes regarding portraying women in my MA thesis titled:\"A Comparative Study of the Image of Women in a Selection of Works by Iranian and non-Iranian Painters, with a Special Focus on the Last Two Decades.\" Currently, my PhD project, titled \"Comparative Gendered Aesthetics in Contemporary Afghan painting (post 1970)\" focuses on analyzing gendered aesthetics in Afghan painting by employing mixed methods approach. It explores the intersection of art, gender and politics within contemporary painting of Afghanistan in comparison to Iran, Iraq, and Egypt. My research interests: Art History and Theory, Feminist Art and Theory, Women\'s Issues and Reasons for their Absence in Art History, Contemporary Art History, Gendered Aesthetics and Stereotypes, Women Representation in Visual Arts/Painting, Investigating influences of social, cultural, and artistic movements (Modernism and Feminism) on women as an artist or as the subjects of paintings, Interdisciplinary Research (Relation Between Art, Society, and Culture), and Applying Data Science in Art
