About Mahshid Asri
As a PhD graduate in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University, I have a strong research background in image processing, wideband radar, FMCW radar, electromagnetic theory, wave propagation, machine learning and algorithm development. I am passionate about applying my skills and knowledge to solve real-world problems and create innovative solutions.I developed an automatic algorithm for distinguishing possible threats from benign objects for the next generation of airport security screening systems, using a deep learning network for pixel-wise prediction of anomalies on radar images. I achieved an f1 score of 89% for this project. I also collaborated with a computer vision group at Northeastern to develop a deep learning network for metallic anomaly detection on simulated radar images of the torso, achieving an f1 score of 92%.Additionally, I worked as a Software Engineer at metalenz, where I improved the FDFD package for solving Maxwell equations for a metasurface design with PML and periodic boundary condition in Julia, and developed functions and unit tests for the RCWA solver package for the design team in Julia. I worked with a team of eight members, and contributed to the optimization and validation of the metasurface design process. I am proficient in Python, Julia, MATLAB, and C++, and have experience with various tools and frameworks, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, and Scikit-learn. I am also skilled in genetic algorithms, algorithm design, and EM computational simulations. I am eager to learn new technologies and techniques, and to collaborate with other professionals in the field of electromagnetics, optics, and image processing.
