Chester, GB

I offer specialised services in flood risk assessment, flood forecasting, flood mapping, surface water management planning, drainage strategy development, hydrology, water quality modelling, morphology, dam break analysis, and wastewater drainage. I use industry-standard modelling software, including 1D, 2D, and 3D tools such as Flood Modeller, ESTRY-TUFLOW, ReFH2.3, FEH, and InfoWorks ICM. Additionally, I utilise GIS tools like MapInfo, ArcGIS, LiDAR, and AutoCAD.A few completed projects:Carlisle Flood Mapping Outlines: Flood risk assessments for the city of Carlisle and its surrounding areas were conducted using detailed 1D-2D hydrodynamic models. The models were run to create flood mapping outlines for fluvial hydrological events with return periods ranging from 5 years to years. This included various scenarios for both defended and undefended conditions.Carlisle Flood Forecasting Model: A comprehensive flood forecasting model for Carlisle has been developed and evaluated for various fluvial hydrological events. This model will assist the local authority in delivering reliable and efficient flood warnings for Carlisle city and its surrounding areas.Stanlow Flood Risk Assessment: A comprehensive 1D-2D hydrodynamic model was developed to assess the flood risk in Stanlow. The flood risk investigation included various hydrological options, such as joint probability assessments of tidal and wave overtopping at the embankment, covering return periods ranging from 10 to years, as well as analyses of potential embankment breaches. Tranmere Flood Risk Assessment: A detailed two-dimensional hydrodynamic model was developed to assess flood risk in Tranmere under various hydrological conditions, including joint probability evaluations of tidal and wave overtopping of the embankment, with return periods ranging from 10 years to years.

ABOUT MAHMUD AHSAN

I am a hydrodynamic modeller and scientist specialising in computational hydrodynamics. My areas of expertise include turbulence modelling, free-surface flow over impermeable and porous beds, and water quality modelling. I have extensive experience in environmental hydraulics, water quality assessment, flood mapping, flood forecasting, flood risk management, hydrology, and morphodynamics in river and coastal areas. Additionally, I have experience in the structural design of tall buildings.I have gained significant experience in developing and applying one-dimensional (1D), two-dimensional (2D), and three-dimensional (3D) numerical models using open-source codes. Additionally, I have utilised various industrial software programs, including Flood Modeller, TuFlow, Duflow, FEH, ReFH, NAM, HEC-RAS, MIKE11, MIKE21, InfoWorks ICM, FLUENT, MapInfo, ArcGIS, LiDAR, DWG TrueView, and AutoCAD. I also possess extensive programming experience in FORTRAN and MATLAB. Furthermore, I have published my academic research in journals and presented my work at international conferences.Specialities- Turbulence modelling in river and coastal areas- Hydraulic modelling in open channel flow- Flood forecasting and mapping- Hydrology- Sediment transport and water quality modelling- Flow in porous media- Finite difference, finite volume, and finite analytical methods- Discretisation of non-linear partial differential equations- Numerical model development and application using Fortran and MATLAB programming- Wastewater modelling and urban flood risk assessment.
