ABOUT MAHNOOR ASHRAF
My journey into public policy has been anything but linear. I began in finance and accounting, drawn to the structure and analytical rigor of the field. However, I soon realized that my true passion lay beyond numbers - I wanted to help shape policies that create real, meaningful change.Determined to contribute to the public sector, I sat for Pakistan’s civil bureaucracy exams and successfully cleared them. However, I was not allocated my preferred occupational group, leading me to reassess my path. Rather than seeing it as a setback, I embraced it as an opportunity to explore different avenues of impact.This led me to strategy consulting, where I focused on public sector clients, primarily in the Middle East. Working closely with governments and policymakers, I helped design and implement reforms in governance, economic development, and social welfare. This experience strengthened my commitment to public service and reinforced my belief that impactful policy requires both strategic thinking and a deep understanding of societal needs.Now, as an MPP candidate at the University of Chicago, I am fully immersed in public policy, with a focus on international development and global conflict resolution.
