As a Regional Program Officer in the Influenza Division’s Global Influenza Branch, I oversee nine bilateral cooperative agreements across the Middle East, North Africa, and East Africa, along with a regional agreement with WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, totaling nearly $4 million USD in FY25 to support influenza surveillance programs. I coordinate with various CDC branches and divisions both domestically and internationally to provide technical input on research and non-research cooperative agreements and to integrate pan-respiratory disease surveillance efforts with established influenza surveillance systems. In collaboration with partners, I conduct assessments of influenza surveillance systems to enhance case identification, sample collection, testing, and reporting while identifying best practices to address regional challenges. As the primary point of contact for CDC partners, I ensure continuous communication to resolve technical and administrative issues and maintain compliance with USG funding oversight policies. Additionally, I design, develop, implement, manage, and evaluate complex and politically sensitive projects and programs within the Middle East, North Africa, and East Africa portfolio.
