ABOUT MAHESH ARALI

In March 2023, I concluded my tenure at Microsoft, resigning from my position as Principal Engineering Manager. Subsequently, I embraced a volunteer role with a political party, delving into the intricacies of political organizational transformation. This endeavor has seen me take on various responsibilities assigned by the party, as I actively contribute and learn from esteemed leaders in this domain. Prior to my foray into politics, my professional journey was rooted in software development.Over the course of 18 years, I navigated diverse roles, including Principal Engineering Manager, Senior Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, Developer, and SDET. Sixteen of those years were dedicated to Microsoft, following a fruitful two-year stint at a startup. In the initial ~15 years of my career, I followed the Individual Contributor (IC) trajectory, serving as a Tech Lead and overseeing multiple vendors for Microsoft. Approximately three years ago, I strategically transitioned into a management role.My expertise lies in the construction of highly scalable engineering systems for applications and services, facilitating the delivery of high-quality software to customers through frequent releases. I played a pivotal role in guiding teams through transitions from quarterly/monthly ship cycles to daily shipping, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. In my final role within the \"Teams\" under Office 365, I spearheaded efforts to establish a world-class, scalable engineering infrastructure for Teams iOS and Android applications, alongside robust release pipelines.Notably, I was instrumental in the bing Ads team\'s shift from monthly to daily ship cycles. Serving as a \"Tech Lead\" during this transformative phase. This involved the development of developer-friendly tools, integration of customer and competitor insights, and meticulous issue identification through spec and design reviews to minimize ambiguity. I spearheaded a comprehensive overhaul of live site quality and client-side performance, introducing optimal tools and processes while reshaping the team\'s mindset. In recognition of these efforts, I received the \"Gold Star\" award twice and was included in the HiPO (High Potential Employee) program for two years.During a distinctive chapter in my career at Jataayu Software, India—a startup company—I led a team, collaborated with a partner team in Israel, and closely engaged with customers in China and Taiwan. My contributions during this period earned me the \"Most Valuable Developer\" award, underscoring my significant impact on the organization.
