ABOUT MAHESH A PATIL
With over two an half decades of distinguished experience at the intersection of Maritime operations especially on LPG Gas Carriers and academic leadership, I bring a rare combination of hands-on engineering expertise and institutional impact to everything I do.As a Marine Chief Engineer, I have led complex shipboard operations aboard LPG vessels — overseeing cargo transfer, dry-docking projects, FPSO conversion, and ensuring compliance with MLC, PSC, SIRE 2.0, and Class regulations. My seafaring career spans roles from Third Engineer to Chief Engineer across globally recognized ship management companies including Wilhelmsen Ship Management and Executive Ship Management.On the academic front, I serve as Marine Engineering Faculty and Dean-SIC at Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies (SIMS), Lonavala, where I lead a team of instructors, deliver full-mission LPG Cargo Handling Simulator courses at the Management Level, and drive institutional quality through ISO 9001 implementation as Quality Coordinator. I have represented SIMS before IMU, DG Shipping, and MTG, and served as Chief Superintendent of Examinations for Indian Maritime University.My passion for innovation led me to conceptualize and develop I-SIC (Intelligent Ship-in-Campus) — a fully functional Augmented Reality-based training simulator — and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Indian Maritime University, researching the optimization of AR simulation in maritime training. My work has been published in indexed journals and presented at national and international forums. Co-Authored Text books for Marine engineering Training. Fluent in English, Hindi, Marathi & Kannada Pune, Maharashtra, India.
