Title: Integration of Process System Engineering and Life Cycle Assessment for Optimized Ecodesign for Sustainable ProcessesThis work is part of the New-Eco Routes project, which aims to develop a predictive tool that integrates model-based simulations with Life Cycle Analysis for the proactive design of sustainable bioproduction chains. Our approach emphasizes relevant and efficient combinations of unit operations to transform resources into chemicals while conducting economic and environmental assessments early in the development phase.The project proposes a comprehensive methodology for optimizing bioprocesses through advanced modeling and simulation techniques in chemical engineering. Utilizing ProSimPlus, we will evaluate key performance metrics, focusing on efficiency and output, including production performance (productivity, yield, titer) and extraction factors (yield, selectivity, purity). This methodology will help identify optimal process configurations, thereby enhancing overall effectiveness in bioprocess optimization. Additionally, we will conduct life cycle assessments using SimaPro software to thoroughly evaluate the environmental footprint of the processes, ensuring a holistic approach to sustainability.
