About Mahendra Deshmukh
Experienced Technical leader with 25 years of expertise in providing technical leadership for API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) manufacturing support in pharmaceutical industries. I strategically enhance manufacturing processes and implement them in commercial manufacturing, considering science and technology, to improve the safety, environmental impact, robustness, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of both Internal and External manufacturing. I oversee the New Product Introduction (NPI), tech transfer, commercialization and scale-up of APIs across multiple sites.I am responsible for overseeing external partners to ensure day-to-day manufacturing and supply of APIs. This includes providing technical support, managing change, investigating root causes, technology transfers, conducting due diligence, GEMBA walks, and evaluating and mitigating quality risks. I also engage in proactive process analysis, continuous process verification, and support audits. I also provided technical support for internal manufacturing sites, which involves planning and controlling the design of experiments, costing and development operations, and implementing process initiatives to improve efficiency and productivity. In addition, I focus on continuous process improvement by optimizing process parameters and employing cost reduction strategies, Quality by Design (QBD), and a Green Chemistry approach to make APIs in a cost-efficient manner. My experience ranges from working in R&D labs to API commercial manufacturing plants, handling small-scale to large-scale production in reputable API manufacturing organizations in India. I am also involved in managing API technology transfer activities from R&D labs to Kilo Labs, Pilot Plants, and Commercial Production Scale. Additionally, I troubleshoot issues, conduct root cause investigations, address deviations and Out of Specification (OOS) results, and deliver remedial actions and CAPA to ensure smooth production processes. As a leader, I am known for my high integrity and energy. I have a proven ability to envision and create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and reports, as well as recruit and train successful multicultural teams with the latest knowledge and modern skills.
