ABOUT MAGGIE RAHAL

I’m an experienced mining engineer who loves solving complex problems and turning data into practical, high-value mine plans. With over 13 years of experience in open-pit mine planning, design, and evaluation, I’m motivated by the challenge of finding smarter, safer, and more sustainable ways to develop resources. Most recently, I worked as Lead Mine Engineer for the Galore Creek project (a JV between Teck and Newmont), and one of Canada’s largest undeveloped copper-gold deposits. I led mine design, cost modelling, and optimization efforts, developing phase designs, RSF layouts, and Whittle optimizations under challenging topographic, geotechnical, and environmental constraints. I also supported multidisciplinary teams, from geology and geotechnical to infrastructure and metallurgy, ensuring that mine plans were technically sound, cost-effective, and aligned with overall project strategy.Earlier in my career, I contributed to multiple large-scale mining operations and feasibility studies, strengthening my expertise in long- and short-term planning, budgeting, and cost estimation. I’m proficient in Deswik, Whittle, MineScape, and Carlson, and I enjoy connecting technical details with strategic decision-making.At my core, I’m driven by collaboration and continuous improvement, finding clarity in complexity and creating mine plans that generate lasting value for projects, people, and the environment.Strategic Mine Planning - Open-Pit - Mine Design -Life-of-Mine (LOM) Planning -Mine Optimization / Optimization -Pit Design & Scheduling-Cost Modelling / CAPEX / OPEX Estimation -Block Model Flagging-RSF Design / Waste Dump Design -Infrastructure / Geotechnical / Environmental Constraints-Multidisciplinary Collaboration -Mine Planning Software (Deswik, Whittle, MineScape, Carlson)-Leadership / Team Mentoring -Safety Culture / Risk Management
