ABOUT MAGDALENA KANECKA
Stories shape the world, and I am greatly driven to tell them. Journalism, to me, is the search for the truth, a bridge between the unheard voices and those who need to listen. In my writing, I aim to illustrate, question, and hold power accountable. My passion lies in the pulse of politics, global affairs, and stories that shift history. I am heavily drawn to the weight of words in times of urgency and telling what must be told. As an emerging journalist, I am constantly learning – through the experience of others, as well as research and powerful conversation. Every piece I write is an attempt to understand the world better and to help others do the same.To sharpen my understanding of the field and the industry, I am currently undertaking my NCTJ diploma in Multimedia Journalism upon graduating from the University of Exeter, laying the foundations for a career in political journalism and foreign correspondence. Coming from a bilingual background and having moved countries at the age of eleven, my ultimate goal is to report from the heart of global events and tell the stories that shape nations.Alongside my passion for reporting, I am a keen advocate for mental health and especially eating disorder awareness, an issue deeply personal to me, and one I decided to examine in my undergraduate politics dissertation. Through my own experience, I have witnessed the overwhelming silence that surrounds these struggles and the power of breaking it. I believe in using my voice to push for better support systems, and ensure that no one feels alone in their fight for recovery.Aside from this, in my free time, I am a competitive athlete at the London Dynasty Cheerleading Club, where I work alongside teammates to perform at national and international competitions. The rigorous nature of the routines allows me to adapt to and learn in fast-paced environments, and the sport is something I have greatly pursued since the age of fourteen.I’m always happy to take on ideas and feedback – so please do reach out!
