ABOUT MADUSHA THANIPPULIARACHCHI
I’m a legally trained policy advisor and a legal counsel with experience across government, litigation, and academia. My work currently focuses on Hydrogen energy policy at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, where I support the development of the UK’s first Hydrogen transport network through legal analysis, policy development, and collaboration with stakeholders such as Ofgem and HM Treasury in relation to developing to transport license. Before moving into policy, I previously served as a legal counsel and a legal advisor at the Attorney General’s office, representing government institutions wide array of courts in the areas of writs, fundamental rights applications, medical negligence and malicious prosecution cases. I’ve advised on areas including sovereign debt restructuring, international investment agreements and contracts, energy regulation, digital economy matters, and legislative reform on wildlife and nature protection, Environmental protection licenses, and have contributed to committee stage discussions on proposed Bills where its constitutionality was challenged. Alongside my professional roles, I teach and write in the fields of international economic law, financial regulation, and commercial law as a visiting lecturer. I’ve also been involved in research projects on climate finance, unfair commercial practices, and debt restructuring strategies. I’m a crazy fan of wildlife, particularly leopards where I often go on photography tours in my spare time.
