About Madison Olson
I am a third-year biotechnology major with a business management minor in the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University. While doing so, I am interested in exploring career opportunities related to stem cell therapy, drug discovery and development, and drug delivery systems. Through my coursework, extracurriculars, and lab-work experiences, I have developed strong problem-solving and organizational skills that support my ability to work effectively in collaborative, team-based environments. Our research focuses on engineering immunomodulatory biomaterials for advancing the treatment of degenerative diseases (specifically osteoarthritis) and related inflammation. We design macrophage targeting and programmed drug delivery systems for spatially and temporally controlled biomolecule release to regulate inflammation. My current role creates macroporous PEG-Alginate cryogels, and conduct behavioral assessments that employ a combination of in vitro models and pre-clinical animal models to evaluate the translational potential of these delivery systems.
