About Madison Barrass
From ballerina to Florida Gator, I have enjoyed transitioning my leadership and communication skills into an educational setting. I am currently a rising sophomore at the University of Florida, where I study Criminology and History, with a certificate in Legal History. My education is complimented by my rich on-campus involvement in several pre-law organizations and editing positions.I was blessed with the opportunity to study abroad in Wales for the 2024 summer semester. There, I was granted the chance to assist clients face-to-face and remotely with pre-trial matters such as paperwork and document submission to court with Support Through Court. I wrote an article and peer-edited works with The Justice Gap, which sheds light on under acknowledged civil liberty infringements. Additionally, I participated in The Carbon Literacy Project and an Environmental Law Clinic, enriching my awareness of my climate footprint while improving my public speaking and presentation capabilities. On campus, I serve as The Pre-Legal Honor Society\'s Co-Chair for Mentor/Mentee affairs, advancing my passion at helping other Gators network, develop their resumes, and understand their professional trajectory. I also edit several works with Alpata, UF History department\'s award-winning history journal. Furthermore, I serve as an editor with the first Florida Undergraduate Pre-Law Review: Law, History, and Society, collaborating with several authors to promote our image of a well-rounded legal system that prioritizes an understanding of the past. In the summer of 2022, I served as an intern with the Broward County Courthouse Homicide Division, observing and note-taking on court proceedings, the voire dire process, and evidence collection. In May of 2023, I simultaneously graduated from high school and Doral College, earning my associate\'s degree. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0. Recently, I accepted a position shadowing attorneys and serving as a Student Ambassador at UF\'S Student Legal Services, furthering my interests in helping young people access equality under the law. My interests lie in the intersectionality of health and environmental law, serving to assist Americans nationwide in their quest for justice against big business oversteps.
