As a teaching fellow for Breakthrough Central Texas, I am serving middle and high school students across the Austin area of who aspire to be the first in their family to obtain a college education. Taking on the role means so much more than leading an eighth grade science class. I will be leading a creative exploration, developing and implementing multicultural curriculum, serving as both an academic and emotional support for students, and gaining professional experience and development that allow me to further my skill set as both an educator and an aspiring mental health professional. Advocating for and teaching students this summer is an incredible opportunity, and I could not be more thrilled to be a key component in students’ access to a college education.
