About Madeline Daniels Benderev

I am proud to be the Digital Strategy Director at ZERO TO THREE, working to ensure that all babies and toddlers have a strong start in life. By day I fight for families, and by night I explore my passion for financial security and financial capability by budgeting and crawling personal finance forums. In additional to offering my unsolicited advice about retirement accounts and emergency funds, I was lucky enough to work as the Communications Director of America Saves at Consumer Federation of America, a campaign that encourages low- and moderate-income Americans to save, build wealth, and reduce debt. As a consumer protection nerd, CFA will also hold a soft spot in my heart. I cut my teeth advocating for children and families as the Senior Director of Digital Communications for First Focus, a bipartisan children\'s advocacy organization. I was also encouraged to pursue my interest in consumer issues through a portfolio of child safety issues and advocated on Capitol Hill to keep kids safe from accidental poisonings and injuries. I began my career with a dream-come-true role as the Staff Assistant at the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. I supported staff with a broad portfolio of oversight and disability policy issues, but my favorite role was in support of the Committee’s oversight of for-profit colleges. I graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota School of Journalism & Mass Communication. I traded the cold (but not the mosquitoes) for Washington, DC, where I get to explore the city with a delightful 0-3 of my own. In my free time, I cross stitch, crochet, and beg my spouse and friends to play board games.
