ABOUT MADELEINE HAZEN

As a Digital Strategist, I collaborate with communications and expert staff to identify high-impact opportunities to increase overall visibility of the Brennen Center using data-driven methods and strategies. I am passionate about issues pertaining to Money in Politics and Election/Voting Reform. At the Brennan Center, a leading nonpartisan law and policy institute, I am able to help amplify their work as well as advocacy initiatives. A little about me- I graduated from The University of Chicago with a major in Political Science and a minor in Astrophysics. My senior thesis was a quantitative study of the relationships between party ideology, automation, and the economy. It was the start of my interest in using quantitative approaches towards understanding the social-political world around us- After graduating, my interest in macroeconomic subjects along with quantitative approaches led me to work at Citi as a Macroeconomic Trading Strategist. In that role I used quantitative, technical, and fundamental approaches to provide market analysis and commentary- During the pandemic, I decided to leave finance and start my own business. Based on personal frustrations I had with the difficulty of getting involved with important issues, I decided to create Choose Pursuit. It was a platform where users could find high impact civic engagement opportunities in NYC. This is currently offline but be on the lookout for something similar in the future.
