About Madeleine Cook-Baker
The youngest of eight, I learned from an early age there are no handouts only hand-ups. My mom sacrificed everything so her children could have a luxury she didn’t: options. My siblings ran so I could walk. I recognize and appreciate the immense privilege it is to have the opportunity to pursue higher education and ultimately a career. It is my family’s sacrifice that has refined my sense of duty. I put my all into everything I do, from being a competitive dancer my entire adolescence to obtaining my bachelor’s degree amidst the country’s largest mass shooting and a global pandemic. Resilience was not taught but earned through self-discipline. My goal in this life both professional and personal is to leave things better than I found them. During my time in competitive dance, I loved and appreciated the freedom of expression, and pride in performance, something that has never left me. When I encounter obstacles I employ my student approach and initiate research and analysis of data to create costs benefit analyses of the options best for me and those around me.
