About Maddy Manning-Bi

Maddy Manning-Bi received a BA in English from Columbia University & was inducted into the Columbia College chapter of New York Delta Phi Beta Kappa in May 2025. She is pursuing an MM in Vocal Performance at LSU\'s School of Music under the tutelage of Sandra Moon, where she is the recipient of the Louise W. Kinney Endowed Superior Graduate Award in Opera Studies, the Lipsey Vocal Scholars Support Fund, one of the winners of the inagural 2025 Dean\'s Aria Competition, a Baton Rouge Opera Guild Scholar, and a recipient of the CMDA Douthat Grant. She was invited to attend Sewanee Summer Music Festival’s OperaFest with Professor Laura Brooks Rice in 2025 & is a scholarship recipient. Maddy is also the recipient of the 2023 & 2024 Richard & Brooke Kamin Rapaport Summer Music Performance Fellowships & Dolan Prizes at Columbia\'s Music Performance Program. She interned as a Student Life Program Assistant & Course Assistant for Stanford University\'s Summer Pre-Collegiate Institute, was a Social Media & Marketing Intern at ONLY POEMS, & attended the International Summer Academy of the Salzburg Mozarteum, studying voice with acclaimed bass-baritone Andreas Schmidt. She works as a private English & creative writing tutor, & as a freelance editor.Maddy attended the Voice & Opera program at the 2021 Interlochen Arts Camp & Stage Daltro Canto with world renowned Italian soprano Donata D\'Annunzio Lombardi in Rome, Italy. In 2019, she was invited to The Juilliard School of Music\'s summer program in Geneva, Switzerland & studied Voice Performance with Rachel Calloway (UofSC). Maddy has performed solo at the Manship Theatre, Princeton University, Stanford University, Collège du Léman in Geneva, Columbia University, Barnard College, WKCR 89.9FM NY, Brandy Melville, & the Shaver Theatre. She began studying piano & voice with Wendy Manning in 2008. She played violin for a decade & is a cellist. Maddy studied voice with LSU Professor Emerita Patricia O’Neill, Amy Burton, Jean-Paul Björlin, & Rachel Calloway.From 20••••22, she was the Deputy Editor in Chief for the Communications Team at the global NGO Dear Asian Youth & was an Editor for the Literature Division. Her writing has appeared in Pen & Quill, DAY, BULL, The Chrysalis, Pixel Journal, De Novo, and Columbia\'s satirical newspaper, The Federalist. Maddy was a featured lyricist for the Manhattan Choral Ensemble & her poem \"Home Was Here\" was set to music for a prize-winning choral composition. The piece had its world premiere at Manhattan School of Music & the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in February 2024.
