About Maddison Lee Crump

As a first generation college student and former foster youth in higher education I have been pulled towards certain opportunities at the University of California Merced. With my previous experience holding a state office in my Masonic organization and community service hours in the hundreds, I found it easy to get involved on campus. In my second semester, I interviewed for my very first job to be a student coordinator for the guardian scholars program and got the job. Through this job I gained experience in project planning/ management, 1:1 mentoring with students in the program, flyer making, liaison services, community outreach, social media, multitasking, and more. In the summer of 2023 I got promoted to be the lead student coordinator of the program without a professional program coordinator for a year and a half. I oversaw other student staff and interviewed more candidates for student coordinator positions and made recommendations for hire based on these interviews. I also trained these new hires and was involved in a multitude of hiring committees for professional staff in the department. Through this promotion I gained more insight on program leadership and direction. I assigned tasks, took program goals to professional staff, was the lead in program management, mentored, and more. Not to mention this gave me a great opportunity to advocate for students and serve on panels.Through this role I have had the honor of having students open up to me in our 1:1 meetings, seeing people flourish under my direction, and overall have felt like a huge help to my people who may have gone through similar hardships in life. Approaching the summer of 2024 I made the decision to present a job idea to my boss after brainstorming how the department could flourish. Through my experiences, I became very passionate about creating community for students as well as connecting them to professional staff. I also became passionate about being an advocate for underserved populations. We created the first ever student fellow position in the department under the belonging and resilience pillar. Not only expanding my knowledge in other diverse populations, but also consulting/ onboarding professional and student staff, advocating, administrative assistant work, special department projects and tasks, cross-team collaboration, and being a student voice in professional staff spaces

   Provides 1:1 support to teens and young adults (ages 14-25) with emotional and behavioral challenges as they transition to independence, including prevention planning for high-risk behaviors through bi-monthly and weekly sessions. • Supports clients in social problem-solving (SODAS), life-skills training, and identifying personal strengths and goals by implementing best practices. • Addresses clients’ emotional and physical needs through sessions and coordination with community resources.• Conducts community outreach and assists in facilitating peer focus groups to help meet program goals.•Partcipates in regular trainings for aspiranet, county, and federal requirements as well as other trainings that are approved by supervisor. Various topics include CPR, first aid, HIPPA, mandated reporting, behavioral health, substance use disorder, inclusivity, and more.
