ABOUT JO KALNAVARNA
With over a decade of experience across the Retail, Pension, Health, and Education sectors, I’ve built my career around elevating quality, enabling engineering teams, and helping organisations modernise how they deliver software. At John Lewis & Partnership, I played a key role in a major architectural shift from monolith to frontend-driven systems. I helped shape and embed best‑practice Quality Assurance approaches while working on features that directly impacted johnlewis.com customers. I’ve also thrived in fast‑paced startup environments, where I built quality engineering foundations from the ground up—moving teams from manual processes to automated pipelines in CircleCI and Azure. I introduced early‑feedback checks in DevOps workflows, championed shift‑left/shift‑right testing, and helped teams adopt a more strategic, quality‑first mindset. Currently, I’m a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) within the PlatOps space at Dunelm. I’m focused on building Terraform modules and automation in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem to replace manual operational processes with scalable Infrastructure as Code. I’ve been brought in at an early stage to shape best practices, define testing strategy from scratch, and support teams through upcoming platform projects. Beyond engineering, I’m passionate about inclusion. I created and now lead Dunelm’s internal Women in Tech community, where I’ve built a year‑long vision, strategy, and roadmap to support, elevate, and grow women across our engineering organisation. I drive both internal and external events, aligning them with a long‑term vision for impact and belonging. Skills: JavaScript, TypeScript (beginner), CI/CD design, Cypress.io, Postman automated E2E testing, API testing, Automation & Manual testing, Agile, GitHub, AWS, GitLab, GCP, Azure, Accessibility, React, Node.js, DevOps, Terraform, IaC, Integration Testing, Contract Testing
