As a Marvin Andrews and Jane Morris Fellow in Local Government, I am part of a competitive, two-year leadership program preparing emerging public administration professionals for executive careers in city and county government. The fellowship combines graduate-level coursework with real-world experience, mentorship from local government leaders, and opportunities to contribute to meaningful community impact.In addition to the hands-on work I’m doing in Glendale - supporting policy and operational projects across departments - I’ve been involved in fellowship-related initiatives, including fundraising, that help strengthen the program and expand its reach.

ABOUT MAYLEE ACOSTA
My passion for city governance was ignited while serving on the Peoria Youth Advisory Board in high school and was further strengthened by a political science degree from NAU. I began my professional career serving the City of Peoria as a Community Navigator, advocating for the most vulnerable populations by researching and referring vital community resources.Seeking to expand my impact, I transitioned to the City of Glendale for a fellowship that allows me to rotate through various departments. This experience has given me a deep understanding of how every individual employee contributes to moving the city forward; I’ve seen firsthand that every role is a critical piece in the puzzle of delivering excellent service to residents.Concurrently, I serve as a Council Assistant for the City of Glendale. This dual perspective has brought my experience full circle - working directly with the elected body while simultaneously rotating through city departments has provided eye-opening exposure to the political side of local government. Seeing how legislative vision and administrative execution come together in real-time has given me a complete, 360-degree view of how a city truly functions.I am driven to be a well-rounded, trusted leader who understands that municipal expertise is the difference between a flourishing and a struggling community.
