Researcher. Educator. Advocate.I love to do research that helps people. Earlier in my research career, I researched language abilities of Autistic adults to find out whether the difficulties seen in social skills of Autistic people are actually impairments or whether Autistic people just communicate differently than typically developing people. This research promotes understanding and acceptance of Autistic people as being different rather than deficient. In investigating this question, I developed a new type of research methodology that can be used to study language abilities in various speech communities.More recently, I have focused on researching Autistic adults and understanding their daily life needs and challenges using lived experience approaches and research engagement paradigms. I want to gather Autistic perspectives and use them to inform policy to address the needs of Autistic adult.I love teaching and educating people about autism, language, and social interaction including in higher education, at charity events, conferences, and in media interviews. I am also very comfortable working with and analysing datasets and designing experiments.I have finished my PhD and I am looking to move on with my career.Want to learn more?
