ABOUT M. SHAMIN BROWN
Listen to Conversations with My Sisters Keepers here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLP5RLM9AvVqUBVK2Le16pfAWdfO8G0WK1 & si=WKllsIBkzeKEPn8n am a registered social worker, certified health and life coach, author, poet, and writer with lived experience of GBV. In my work, influenced by feminist principles, I foster shame resilience and support capacity-strengthening while encouraging participant self reflection. I am familiar with issues affecting women and youth who are vulnerable to, or are experiencing, gender-based violence (ie. sexual exploitation, addictions, violence, harm reduction, healthy relationships, self image/identity, the healing path and relationship building strategies for work with high risk youth). I offer group and individual counselling to women and youth who are vulnerable to, or are experiencing, gender-based violence. I also provide staff training and development service, consultation, public education presentations and spoken word performances. In 2014, I recieved the Canadian Hero Inspiration Award from the Joy Smith Foundation for my work in raising awareness of sexual exploitation and facilitating healing and capacity building in survivors. “[Shamin] gave the girls hope that they too could conquer their own struggles and overcome their pain” Kristina Marley, B&L Resources – Gertrude House “Ms.Brown made a real connection with our students…her story would be invaluable for others to hear and experience” Jim Beveridge, Principal of River East Collegiate
