About M. Salim Beg

I have been a passionate teacher, dedicated researcher and closely oversaw various top level University administrative works. I have been Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) till October 2024. The faculty includes Z. H. College of Engg. & Technology, University Polytechnic, Women\'s Polytechnic, & Community College. It encompasses 12 departments and four advanced research centers, with over students and 300 faculty members. I was Professor, Dept. of Electronics Engg, AMU during 20••••24 and its Chairman during 2012-15. After superannuating from AMU, I am continuing to advise, collaborate, & consult on a part-time / freelance basis and as Adjunct Professor.I chaired AMU’s Ranking Committee for over 6 years resulting in significantly improved AMU\'s rankings. As a result, AMU is now ranked among India’s top institutions in several disciplines by international & national agencies like THE, QS, Shanghai Ranking, & NIRF.I have Ph.D. from Loughborough University (UK) while being a Commonwealth Scholar, a Master of Engg in Electrical Communication Engineering from Indian Institute of Science Bangalore and a B.Sc. Engineering (Honours) from AMU. My current interest areas include 5G/6G Mobile Communications, Wireless Networks, Signal Processing, IoT, Smart Systems, Quantum Computing & Artificial Intelligence. I have supervised 55+ postgraduate / doctoral theses and published over 200 research papers, including 10 in Transactions, and one granted patent.I travelled widely to deliver numerous courses & tutorials globally and collaborated with companies like Motorola, Lucent Bell Labs, Ericsson, Alcatel, Telekom Malaysia etc. Many of my work focused on multimedia transmission over mobile/wireless networks. I have been coordinating R&D projects funded by AICTE, MHRD, UGC, etc. and chaired the committee that oversaw the establishment AMU\'s 5G lab. I have also done pioneering work on Electronic Displays.From 1997 to 2002, I was Associate Professor and Chairman, Centre for Multimedia Communications at University Telekom / Multimedia University, Malaysia. I love organizing large events and was Conference Chair of IMPACT-2009 & General Chair of IMPACT-2013, both co-sponsored by distinguished career in academia, coupled with his research & industry collaborations, has greatly advanced the fields of Electronics & Communication Engg, 4G/5G/6G Communications & IoT.
