About M James Riordan
Jim Riordan is a team leader for Weston & Sampson, Inc, where he heads up the Urban and Environmental Planning Group in the Water Practice.Jim has 25+ years of experience and provides a wide range of consulting services in such areas as master planning, small-area planning, stormwater utility planning, onsite wastewater management planning, industrial materials management, water supply and watershed planning, land-use development and review, state and municipal policy development, strategic planning, and capacity building for nonprofits. In addition to his technical skill set, Jim brings a unique ability to coordinate with people of varying backgrounds and build consensus.In 2005, he received the EPA Environmental Merit Award for his work on smart growth and stormwater programs. In 2011 and 2014, he received the Rhode Island Chapter American Planning Association President\'s Award. Jim was elected vice president of the Rhode Island Chapter of APA in 2014 and president in 2016. He is the Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy Division Chair and a Sustainability Champion for the Sustainable Communities Division of APA. He was also appointed in 2014 by Governor Lincoln Chafee to serve on the Rhode Island State Planning Council. In 2022, Jim was very honored to receive the Dan Varin Leadership Award. Dan was an important mentor to Jim. Jim earned a master of urban planning degree (1993) from New York University\'s Wagner School of Public Service with a concentration in environmental planning and a certificate in environmental risk assessment. He received his AICP in May 2005 and became a LEED accredited professional in 2008. He earned his bachelor\'s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell (1989) where he studied psychology, health and chemistry.
