ABOUT M. AYA KIY-MORROCCO

M. Aya Kiy-Morrocco is an award-winning compliance leader and regulatory attorney with two decades of experience guiding high-growth tech companies through complex policy and governance frameworks. In her most recent role as Corporate Counsel for AWS, she was part of the Regulatory Risk Management and Compliance team where she spent two years building flexible and scalable regulatory compliance processes for a hyper-growth environment. Aya advised business units on global sustainability (HREDD, Green Claims Directive) and social responsibility FLR, Modern Slavery, Conflict Minerals) regulations and managed internal escalations and external communications on these topics. Prior to joining Amazon she served as Head of ESG Governance at Cognizant, a $20 billion global technology services provider, where she built an award-winning global ESG reporting team and worked to elevate the company’s sustainability disclosures, practices, and ratings. Her work in sustainability compliance has been recognized by leading independent analysts including Governance Intelligence (2022 Corporate Governance Awards – Governance Professional of the Year), Verdantix (2022 Innovation Excellence Awards – ESG Reporting & Metrics), and GRC 20/20 (2023 Best-in-Class – ESG Management, Large Enterprise).Aya began her career at BlackBerry with a legislative focus. She created BlackBerry’s state-level government affairs program and ran it as a one-woman shop, soon taking on the regulatory portfolio and drafting company submissions to agencies (FCC: spectrum interoperability; FTC: content moderation). She worked with industry partners to create voluntary frameworks and managed strategies for global, federal, and state regulations.Aya has worked with nonprofits focused on impact through technology in advisory roles and served as counsel and consultant for several start-ups and app developers with a focus on compliance. Aya received a Bachelor of Science in International Politics from Georgetown University, and her Juris Doctorate degree from The George Washington University Law School.
