John Hansard Gallery, part of the University of Southampton, is one of the UK’s leading contemporary art galleries. JHG supports, develop and present great art by outstanding artists from across the world and is proud to play a dynamic role in the cultural life of Southampton and the region.JHG is locally engaged and an internationally recognised contemporary art gallery in the heart of Southampton. Through a co-creation process with artists and community, JHG creates innovative and critically acclaimed contemporary art exhibitions, events, learning and research projects that excite, challenge, reflect and reach the widest possible public audience.Initiatives include:Inclusive Practices: A 2-year programme in partnership with the School of Education looking to raise racial literacy within the art and design curriculum with am amazing team of artists, workshop assistants, schools and PGCE trainee teachers.Windrush Portraits and Legacy in partnership with Black Archives South and key communities and artists, Nosa Malcolm, Greg Bunbury, Wendy Shearer and Amanda Ray Epe (2023-4)Community Take Over (20••••24)- co-created with Southampton communities and University of Southampton academics involving over visitors and over people in workshops, talks and conversations. Themes for 2024 centred around Wellbeing, Collaboration and Access - expressed through food. Ambassadors - involving local communities in developing leadership and co-devising opportunities to influence the gallery and wider cultural provision in the city.Pre-school artists residency led by Sam Ivin for Seaside Photographed (2020-21)Inclusion Workshops for Southampton City of Culture Bid, working with Jan McKenley and the bid team.Writer in Residence programmes - Nazneen Ahmed (2019) and Ella Frears (2021)Cultural Education Partnership initiativesEvents and workshop onsite, offsite and online inspired by the contemporary arts exhibition programmehttps://jhg.art/
