ABOUT LYNN REID

I am an assistant professor in rhetoric and composition and director of basic writing at Fairleigh Dickinson University. In addition to teaching in our basic writing program, I also teach first-year composition, research writing, and digital rhetoric and writing. Since 2012, I have served as the Associate Editor of the Basic Writing e-Journal, and I am immediate-past co-chair of the Council on Basic Writing, a Standing Group. As director of basic writing, I am primarily responsible for curriculum, faculty development, and assessment, and I consult in all of these areas as well. My research centers on composition pedagogy, writing program administration, and disciplinary intersections between basic writing and computers and writing. I have published on the role of narratives about institutional change in disciplinary identity construction in Journal of Basic Writing and WPA Journal, and I am at work on a book project that examines the discourse of activism in composition scholarship and its relation to early career professional experiences with institutional change. I am also the recipient of two Kairos awards from the field of computers and writing, one for scholarship, and the other for service to the field. At City College of New York, I was awarded the Norman Levine Outstanding Teaching Award for a Freshman Inquiry Writing Seminar that I designed and co-taught on the rhetoric of digital activism, and I have recently taught both in-person and online versions of an online research writing course on hashtag activism. I am currently designing a graduate-level course on Digital Storytelling. Prior to coming to FDU, I taught at Brookdale Community College, Rutgers, Bronx Community College, New School University and City College of New York. I have worked with students in Trio Programs, SEEK at CUNY, Freshman Intensive Studies at FDU, and, most recently, the W.E.B. DuBois Summer Scholars program at Princeton University. Additionally, I spent a year coordinating a TA-training course for a high school Saturday bridge program at New School University. I earned my Ph.D. in English Composition and Applied Linguistics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and I hold a certificate in TESOL from the Program in American Language Studies from Rutgers University.
