ABOUT LYNN HULSEY

I am a skilled cross-platform investigative reporter at the Dayton Daily News focusing on business, jobs and the economy, government and politics. See my stories at at I’ve won awards from the Associated Press, Society of Professional Journalists, Ohio Newspaper Women’s Association, Best of Cox Award and the Education Writers Association’s National Awards for Education Reporting. In 2018 I was named a Dangerous Dame of Dayton by the League of Women Voters of the Greater Dayton Area. I\'ve covered presidential, Congressional, legislative and local political campaigns. I am currently working on a project called The Path Forward-Jobs & the Economy, which focuses on solutions-based journalism. I enjoy talking about my stories on TV and radio, notching appearances on WHIO Reports and WHIO-TV in Dayton, Face the State on WBNS-TV in Columbus, WYSO-FM in Yellow Springs and WHIO-AM in Dayton. I\'m skilled at optimizing my stories for digital and promoting them on social media, where I regularly achieve high engagement rates. I\'ve written about train safety, the dangers of hazardous materials in storage or during transport, the economic disruptions and human toll of the COVID-19 pandemic, the child care crisis, a solar energy company that went bankrupt amid investigations, the abuse of the public employee disability pension system and federal contract set-aside programs, contamination and sick workers at a closed uranium enrichment plant, a priest who stole millions from his church, a county official who gave his relative a six-figure, no-bid public contract and Statehouse race allegations of violence and sexting. My investigation of a pastor who stole money intended to feed the poor led to his conviction and imprisonment on felony theft and forgery charges. Over the years I’ve covered county and city government, state and national issues and elections, politics, business and education. I\'ve been a full-time journalist since 1985 and I began working at the Dayton Daily News in 1995. Before that worked at the Springfield News-Sun, covering City Hall, and at the Xenia Daily Gazette. I grew up in the Dayton area and graduated from the University of Dayton with a dual major in English and Communication Arts/Journalism.
