My role provides spiritual guidance, counseling, and support to patients, families, and caregivers, ensuring their needs are met with compassion and respect. I conduct spiritual assessments to identify individual needs, preferences, and values, while offering grief counseling and bereavement support as necessary. Additional responsibilities include: facilitate religious or spiritual rituals, prayer, and sacraments upon request and collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary hospice team to integrate spiritual care into the overall care plan. It is imperative to honor and support patients’ diverse religious, spiritual, and cultural practices, documenting services and maintaining accurate records in compliance with hospice policies and regulations. Additionally, I serve as a resource for staff and volunteers, offering training and guidance on spiritual care topics, and conduct memorial services, funerals, or other rites as requested, all while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to the highest ethical standards.
