About Lydie Lake
A recent BA graduate of journalism and mass communication with a minor in political science, I am seeking experience in the legal field as I prepare my applications for law school. At GW, I honed in on my writing and reporting skills and learned the basics of free speech and First Amendment rights. As an intern for esteemed media organizations such as Transitions Media in Prague, CZK, and The American Prospect in Washington, DC, I’ve seen and done the hard but rewarding work that journalists do to tell stories that people deserve to hear. The right to free an independent media is one I’m passionate about and is what’s pushing me toward the legal field, where I can defend it. As a public affairs intern with MnDOT and a former administrative assistant, I have extensive experience in file organization and clear communication. As an editorial intern for Transitions Media and The American Prospect, I’ve learned how to dive into social topics and efficiently conduct research to ensure the correct information is reported. Furthermore, my study abroad experience introduced me to international forms of communication and cultural diversity, an experience I can bring with me into any professional setting. All of these experiences throughout my undergraduate education have crafted me into a detail-oriented, organized communicator and storyteller that is ready to put these skills into practice in a legal setting.
