ABOUT LUTZ FERDINAND NIEDERER

I have been working in the Translation and Interpretation (Localization) Industry since I was a student in Berlin in 1995. For 2 years I worked as an escort interpreter for the Federal Press Office (Bundespresseamt), accompanying foreign guests of the Federal Government on their trips through the Eastern federal states and Berlin. After my move to the United States and after graduation from the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) in I started working for eBay in San Jose, CA, helping to build the localization department from scratch. In July 2007 I became the European Language Lead for the language specialists located in Europe (Belgium and Poland). In October 2007 I moved to Germany to work from the eBay Berlin office, also working closely with the other European eBay offices.In March of 2011 I became Localization Manager of eBay in Europe, responsible for 12 languages and 14 sites. In 2014 I became Senior Localization Manager eBay Europe.In 2014 the new field of Machine Translation was added to my responsibilities. I initially managed 3 MT Language Specialist (French, Italian, German), potentially adding more. Area of expertise: Providing custom made translations, consulting for other departments within the company on requirements for proper translation/localization, implementing best practices across the different European offices involved in localization
