ABOUT LUKE JOHNSTON HONS

I’m a stakeholder and third-party management professional with nearly a decade of experience at United Utilities, working across complex, multi-million-pound infrastructure schemes that require clarity, collaboration, and trust at every level. I am currently working within the Better Rivers Team. One of the highlights of my career has been playing a lead role on the flagship £300 Million West Cumbria Supplies Project, where I was responsible for stakeholder and third-party management and led the delivery of electricity supply connections for a 100KM pipeline across the Lake District National Park World Heritage Site. Working on projects of this scale has strengthened my ability to balance technical delivery with people, partnerships, and long-term outcomes.Alongside my professional career, I’m the Chairman and Director of Cumbria’s largest grassroots football club, proudly accredited as a 3-Star England Football club. Leading within grassroots football is something I’m hugely passionate about — it’s about community, opportunity, and building sustainable structures that allow people to thrive.I also bring hands-on commercial experience from the hospitality sector, having owned and developed both a cocktail and tapas bar and an Italian restaurant. These ventures sharpened my understanding of customer experience, business development, and the realities of running and growing a business.Currently, I’m focused on developing my groundworks business, applying my project management background, commercial awareness, and leadership experience to deliver high-quality outcomes on the ground.I hold a degree in Construction Project Management and am MAPM qualified. I’m motivated by building strong relationships, leading with integrity, and turning complex challenges into practical, deliverable solutions.
