I serve as the research director of the Joint Committee on Housing, analyzing current housing policies and bills filed before the Massachusetts Legislature in order to help create more affordable housing for the citizens of Massachusetts.Role includes organizing public hearings for every housing bill filed before the General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, write and draft bill summaries for all 160-200 bills, receive and record testimony on said bills, organize meetings with housing stakeholders, tenant organizations and developers, draft floor speeches, partake in commissions, and review, re-write and draft statewide housing policy.Role included working on the Affordable Homes Act in 2024, the largest housing investment in the history of Massachusetts. The bill authorizes $5.16 billion in housing spending during a five-year period as well as over 30 policies to help generate diverse Massachusetts housing supply — from climate resilient multifamily housing, commercial conversion into mixed-use developments, and public housing. Other policies include permitting accessory dwelling units as-of-right statewide, establishing a program to address habitual concerns including lead paint, mold and asbestos, first-time homebuyer aid, supportive housing measures and tenant protections.
