As a biological science technician GS-4, I will be inspecting watercrafts for aquatic invasive species as well as cleaning, draining, and drying various types of watercrafts with decontamination equipment. I will have the incredible opportunity to explore all of the amazing conservation opportunities that Yellowstone National Park has to offer such as volunteering with the Grizzly Bear Team in my free time. Thank you to everyone who has made this opportunity possible, and I hope to stay in touch with everyone as I head out west.

ABOUT LUKE WITHSTANDLEY
I have successfully graduated from the University of Connecticut with my bachelors in natural resources with a concentration in fisheries and wildlife. As a kid I have loved nature since I was raised in the Adirondacks and my love for the environment has only grown. I have dedicated my career exercising practices to do research, collecting data, and learning all that I can about conservation and the work and dedication that goes into conserving our natural world in wildlife, fisheries, and land. Specifically I am highly interested in large vertebrate conservation population dynamics and strategies on how to best preserve those species, specifically bears.I have gone to places such as Costa Rica in high school for big cat research and South Africa study abroad at UCONN to see how conservation is performed by doing either field research or a study abroad. I was also fortunate enough to see how conservation is prioritized on different continents, and I hope for there to be many more. I have worked as a boat steward for 2 consecutive summers of 2022 and 2023 at the Adirondack Watershed Institute searching boats for aquatic invasive species for Lake Champaign. I also worked as an eco-intern for Greenwich Land Trust working on plant invasives identification, control, and removal as well as research on the disease harming Eastern Hemlock called Hemlock Wooly Adelgid by using technology such as ArcGISPro and the landscape mobile app in 2024. I was president of a club that is part of an organization that is called UCONN Net Impact which is a branch organization to Net Impact that has dedicated itself to bring more sustainable options to UCONN’s campus with a more business attribute to it by holding meetings with various people of UCONN to see what on campus can be improved and promoting sustainable options as well as providing students with opportunities to exercise what they know about sustainability and even learning from these opportunities. I was able to be a part of the UCONN Mens Rowing Team doing 5am practices to help balance my physical fitness and while perusing my education for 3 consecutive years. I am always willing to learn and do more and I’m never afraid to go outside and interact with wildlife.
