ABOUT LUKE SMITH

Having grown up to watch technology change and define the very nature of the world around me, has left me with a strong innate desire to bring my own contributions to this world of advancements and innovation. It is thanks to this technological based inspiration that has led me to be the person and professional I am today. I have a strong desire to constantly improve, better and enhance both myself as an individual and any project I happen to be working on. Welcoming new challenges is the best way to gain exposure to new technologies as well as reinforce existing skills.Since studying Computer Science at the University of Liverpool and achieving a 2:1 (Hons), I have been employed by QAC as a consultant for the award winning Home Office IPT Project. Initially I started off as an automated tester before gravitating towards a more devops focused role.I then took the jump into the start up world, where I worked in the medical sector for a company called YourMD as a Junior Devops Engineer. My main responsibilities included: infrastructure as code using Terraform, deploying Docker applications through AWS ECS service, automation of builds using CICD tools and scripting. Some of my noticeable achievements include- Migrating our entire website to AWS and creating a CICD pipeline to increase delivery- Using python created environment shutdown lambdas to align with our cost optimisations efforts- Created a multitude of docker ECS services from scratch that now operate in our production environment- Completely rewrote our Terraform wrapper scripts (bash) to enable quicker deployments and increased functionality. Currently I am working for Playstation as a Cloud Infrastructure engineer in their data strategy department.
