Ashland, WI, US

Overseeing all athletic training duties involved with the school\'s athletic program 12 Varsity sports, along with administrative duties as well as day to day treatments and prevention of injuries. Providing leadership to all athletes along with superior customer service to all visiting teams to feel they are receiving the best care possible for them as our guests while competing. Over this past year, I have completely overhauled all of the modalities with upgrades. More cost effective and saving money in the process. Injury rates were reduced by 50% by providing aggressive prevention program to all sport teams and their athletes. Next fall, I was working with the department heads in the physical therapy department to begin teaching classes to students going into the field. They like that I had a background with hands on approach and thought I was a valuable asset to the program. For this summer I had applied to grants to help start on campus a program for rehabilitation for adaptive athletes that have served in the military, or as a first responder, fire department, or police department that were injured in the line of duty. This is something I always wanted to do to give back to the community.

ABOUT LUKE HOWARD

Licensed athletic trainer/NATA certified since 1992. Clinical outreach and physician extender duties along with community involvement with mass event coverage. I enjoy working with a team concept to complete a common goal. Communication is important for a team to function properly and efficiently to reach their goal. I treat my co-workers with respect and trust. If an mistake is made, we are accountable for the mistake we made and as a team will correct it and prevent it from happening again. In the meantime we will always look for new ways to broaden our skills. This is all possible with the help of leadership, organizational, teamwork, listening, and coaching skills. Specialties: Sports Metrics Program Instructor of Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Research Education Foundation Along with my duties for outreach visits, Immanuel Baptist School in Menomonie, WI and Liberty Christian School in Hallie, WI are two schools that have a very small enrollment with students that are in need of proper medical care based on low income for some of their families. In turn, I provide them with clothing and winter coats for children that are in need to stay warm during the winter months and I provide used sports gear equipment for those that are underprivileged. During their sport seasons I am able to donate Gatorade powder, cups, and coolers for their athletic teams. It may not sound like much, but to see the smiles on their faces makes my life very meaningful.
