ABOUT LUKE GAVIN
Wine professional with over ten years experience selling, buying, pouring, talking and writing. Passionate about wine and all things drinkable. Close to five years managing the delightful Premier Crew Club at Honest Grapes - sharing our carefully selected range of delicious and often exclusive wines available online and at our unbeatable events. During this time, we’ve won the Decanter Subscription Wine Club of the Year award 2020, a very proud improvement on the runner-up prize the previous year. The company as a whole has gone from strength to strength, earning The Outstanding Wine Retailer of the year, also from the 2020 Decanter Awards, as well as Fine Wine Retailer of the Year 2020 from The Drinks Business. Personally named in Spear’s Best wine advisors for high-net-worth individuals in 2022 - top 25 in the UK. Graduated from the WSET Diploma in Wine with a Merit grade in 2021. Still always looking to learn. Having begun a hospitality career in the kitchen 16 years ago, I spent several years developing a knowledge of cuisine and gastronomy until choosing to take an academic look at the industry from the age of 21. My four year degree course included gaining a 12 month hotel management position in the States that itself \"accidentally\" included cocktail bar and food & beverage management roles, culminating in a First Class Degree (with honours) in Hospitality Management & Tourism Management. Following graduation I built up an array of experience in vineyard operations, winery logistics and wine production, as well as sales, marketing and ‘wine philosophy’ working in a number of prestigious wineries and hospitality venues in Australia and New Zealand over the course of two and a half years. Having returned to the UK, I spent the 2015 festive period gaining some valuable sales experience working in the Wine & Spirits department at Harrod\'s in Knightsbridge, followed by further building a working knowledge of retail sales management, marketing & merchandising during an extremely successful period with Oddbins over the majority of the next three years.
