About Lukas Maas

I am a software engineer with a passion for designing and building high-performance data systems. At Microsoft Research, my current work focuses on improving the cost efficiency of multi-tenant cloud database services by innovating on resource management mechanisms for serverless database workloads.Prior to joining Microsoft, I spent 7 years working on database research & development at Harvard, IBM Research, Oracle Labs and TU Dresden. During that time, I worked on solving numerous database research and engineering challenges in multiple areas, including storage engines, query processing and optimization, and database tuning.

   Member of the Data Systems group at Microsoft Research, focusing on improving the cost-efficiency of Microsoft’s database services by designing and implementing novel resource allocation mechanisms for multi-tenant cloud databases. Currently, innovating on mechanisms targeting serverless workloads, and collaborating closely with the Azure SQL Database team.
