ABOUT LUIZ DE GODOY

Luiz Guilherme de Godoy is one of the most successful Brazilian musicians of his generation.(.) his Biography impresses and his achievements amaze (.)“ Folha de São Paulo-“The musicians of the Philharmonic State Orchestra with the young Luiz de Godoy on the pit bring Davies’ multifaceted, atmospherically dense music to shine.” Hamburger Abendblatt-Luiz de Godoy is a 37-year-old Brazilian-German conductor based in Hamburg, where he teaches orchestral conducting and transcultural music education at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater. His international profile is unique amongst his peers in age and as a black classical musician. Appointed Artistic Director of the Hamburg Boys’ Choir in 2021, he made his Hamburg debut with the ensemble that same year together with members of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, conducting Bach’s Christmas Oratorio for a radio broadcast. At the Hamburg State Opera, he conducted 55 performances over the seasons 20••••25, including the premieres of Spring Awakening (Ludger Vollmer) and the chamber version of A Trip to the Moon (Andrew Norman). In 2019, he debuted at the Musikverein Golden Hall, leading the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien.Collaborations as a chorus master with renowned orchestras and conductors have taken him to Carnegie Hall with Kent Nagano, to the Vienna Philharmonic with Zubin Mehta, Franz Welser-Möst and Gustavo Dudamel, and to the Berlin Philharmonic and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra with Sir Simon Rattle.
