ABOUT LUIS SALGADO

I am a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in sustainable development, climate change, financing, and market mechanisms, as well as applied environmental policy. My expertise includes project development and implementation, international negotiations, and climate finance mechanisms, combined with a strong understanding of the climate change framework and the needs of producer organizations. Throughout my career, I have spearheaded various GHG mitigation projects in Peru, Nicaragua, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Canada, focusing on reforestation, forest conservation, improved forest management, and initiatives in the energy and industrial sectors. I have also led the design of several climate finance initiatives, including establishing the groundwork for one of the first voluntary carbon markets for developing countries in Costa Rica. Additionally, I have served as a negotiator and advisor for Latin American and African countries in the negotiation process, addressing market mechanisms, climate finance, and forestry issues. For the past decade, I have focused on developing and implementing innovative strategies for nature-based solutions linked to climate-smart agriculture and forest conservation in the Americas, collaborating with producer organizations, investment funds, private sector partners, governments, and multilateral institutions.
