ABOUT LUIS QUIEL
As an executive physician with operational and strategic expertise within the healthcare sector, I am dedicated to enhancing healthcare delivery and outcomes through innovation, collaboration, and transformational leadership. Currently, I lead and manage the operations of a large hospitalist group at Staten Island University Hospital, with a focus on quality improvement, patient safety, utilization review, medication safety, and peer review for our Division. My role also extends to academia as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and faculty member for a prominent Internal Medicine Residency Program.With over a decade of experience in internal medicine and hospital medicine, I am committed to driving clinical innovation and conducting meaningful clinical research. My work includes pioneering research projects with international impact in collaboration with the NIH-NCI and the establishment of an Observership Program for International Medical Graduates. I also have a history of advocating for underrepresented students in medicine through my involvement with a nonprofit Student Advisory Board.Certified as a Physician Executive by the Certifying Commission in Medical Management since 2018, I further honed my leadership and business acumen by completing an MBA at the Isenberg School of Management, UMass Amherst in 2023. My contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous honors, including the American Hospital Association Scholarship Award by the Health Care Research Fund for Physician Leadership Training, also awarded by the American College of Physicians as a Fellow. In addition to my professional endeavors, I am fluent in both Spanish and English, and I have shared my insights through various journal publications and media outlets
