ABOUT LUIS CARLOS ESTRADA
I came to the U.S. with two goals: play professional baseball and learn English. To pay for my first semester at Cochise College, I sold barbacoa and tortas, trained kids in baseball, and even organized a raffle. A scholarship covered my second semester, and for my third I faced a defining choice: use my savings to pay tuition or print 500 copies of a book I had written. I chose the book, investing my last and leaving just $30 in my account. Within three weeks I sold 200 copies, enough to cover not just one, but two semesters.From there, I served as Vice President and then President of Student Government, which funded semesters four through seven. After initially losing, I persisted and earned one of only two annual scholarships to transfer to Northern Arizona University. I later completed a Bachelors in Business Administration- Marketing, a Business Economics certificate as a Graduate Assistant with NAU Athletics, followed by an MBA while working as a Graduate Assistant in the Office of the University President.Along the way I volunteered extensively, launched the Empowered podcast, and delivered 30+ talks in English and Spanish. I proudly represented both Cochise College and NAU at regional, national, and international competitions and events.Today, I continue that journey as part of OneAZ Credit Union; still driven by the same grit and purpose that brought me here.
